CLEF 2021 CheckThat! Lab: Advancing the Detection of Misinformation and Disinformation in Social Media

The 4th edition of the CLEF CheckThat! Lab took place from September 21-24, 2021, and focused on the detection of misinformation and disinformation in social media. The lab is a part of the CLEF 2021 conference and aims to bring together researchers and industry experts to advance the state-of-the-art in the field. The lab was divided into three tasks, each of which focused on a different aspect of the problem. Task 1 focused on the identification of check-worthy claims in social media, while Task 2 focused on the verification of the factuality of the claims. This year’s lab also featured a new subtask, Task 3, which focused on the identification of persuasive language in social media. The subtask aimed to identifying the use of fake news in social media posts,. The CLEF 2021 CheckThat! Lab was the most popular task at the conference.
